the spring for the lock broke in about a week from normal use. it will close and latch but the lock will not stay in place allowing for pets to get out. sending back and shopping for another one that has the normal two latch locks. this one was easier to use but not durable.
it’s okay. i ordered the second size up, i forgot the measurements but i wish i went with a bigger size. my pup is small for now, but as you can see the crate isn’t that big to put his bed inside. this will work for now tho. he is climbing in it on his own with no problem, so i guess it’ll do the job.it does come already set up. all you have to do it take it out of the box, lift it up, and snap a few pieces together and it’s done. it also comes with a divider. so if you have 2 pups and you get a bigger size that would separate them i guess.
we had this cage for exactly 3 weeks when our 6 month old german shepherd lab mix was easily able to bend the bars and ultimately detach the pieces of the cage from one another get out. i will say, german shepherds are known for their problem solvating abilities/strength but we were shocked. he also has some separation anxiety which doesn’t help the situation but this cage is not as strong as advertised and it’s misleading in that sense. probably would work well for an older dog that just chills but not for an active pup or pup with nervous/anxious tendencies. we were able to return and get a refund but had to get a box and package the cage which was incredibly inconvenient and pointless since it was destroyed.
i struggled with the clips that hold it closed when it came to setting it up, i never really figured out how to do it, it just kind of came apart so unfortunately there was no trick. it does feel super well built, though!update:do not buy this crate for a dog with any kind of anxiety. my 50lb dog managed to claw through and bend the front frame of this door in the matter of 15 minutes. his first 15 minutes in his crate alone and all of a sudden i'm out 90 dollars.
when setting up the cage the hooks in picture one and two were attached to the side panels requiring the bars to be bent to free the sides. the divider came with the bars bent as shown in picture 3. the paint is chipped where the hooks are showing it was used previously and shipped as “new”. very disappointed
if you have a larger dog i don’t recommend this. it broke within 1 day and nearly strangled my dog. we weren’t away from the house he just sees it as a challenge and tries to get out. normally we ease him into a new kennel with the challenge method, however this time it did not work. since the bars are so small he was able to bend 2 of them just enough to poke his nose through, then thought he could fit his head. if we hadn’t been home i’m afraid of what would have happened. for larger dogs get something sturdier. 2 stars because it is a great item for a much smaller dog. it just is not sturdy enough for anything larger than 40 lbs.
thus arrived bent already, and that made it difficult to set up. once set up it didn’t feel secure and i was scared it would just fall over. my big dog can bend the thin metal bars. would not recommend for bigger dogs
once the crate is set up it looks nice, perfect size for our australian shepard. but the set up process was awful, it instructions showed one latch you had to undo but this one was hooked all together from other latches that was very hard to undo. if you have physical limitations it will be very hard if not impossible to do by yourself.
missing the divider which was the whole reason of getting the crate and i can't get the divider sent to me. i'd have to return the whole thing and get a new one which is inconvenient
why do co feel they have to fix something that’s not broke. the latching system is terrible a spring loaded double latch made of plastic when it would of been so easy to keep the old design of just lift and slide the latch. so when the spring and plastic latch breaks either of over use or my dog chewing it from the inside i may not be able to get the dog out quickly if needed. would not buy again
the handle for the dog crate which i really wanted since this crate is so large and heavy, came unattached from the crate. when i tried to put the plastic handle on the crate, it broke. i called amazon to see about getting just the handle. i really didn't want to load the crate for a return because it's bulky and heavy. the amazon representative, who was very nice, checked and there is not an option to buy just the handle. plus no phone number for me to contact the manufacturer. the amazon rep offered a discount which i took, but i would have much rather had the handle. the handle is the reason for the mediocre review. the handle should come attached to the crate.
ugh! the old model was better. instead of a basic slide closure there is now a spring loaded closure that requires two hands. i used to be able to hold my cat and open the kennel (we use this to keep the dog out of her food). the new model has a spring loaded closure that is such a pain that i may try to break it. wasn’t worth returning and so we are just using as-is. if you a prefer a simple slide closure look for a different product. otherwise this gets the job done.
i’ve had this for a month and it works well, my issue is with the spring operated door closing/opening mechanism. i should have looked closer before purchasing, the spring mechanism is becoming more difficult to open. it was smooth for a while, now i have to hold the cage with one have while trying to pull door open. the dog that uses it is about 10 lb, old and blind so i k ow he did nothing to damage the door. not sure if i want to use wd-40 on it since there will be residue and smell after. looking for different cage
