i’ve had this for a few years and haven’t used it much; it’s heavy, and i have better options for travel. but i needed the larger solar charging capacity recently and took this with me. after an afternoon in the sun, the main solar panel was warped and peeling off. maybe the glue has dried out but i have other solar chargers that have been designed better for their primary application.
i like the idea, but it does not easily change. i’m actually still trying to figure out how to make it charge since i missed out on the return time frame
i have higher capacity power banks. i also have a 'hobby' 600w solar setup.my brother got a power bank with a single panel and was unhappy. i saw this and thought '4 times the charging!so i got it. plugged it in, gave it a full, plugged in charge, then drained it and tossed it on the roof at 6am on a sunny oklahoma day with the panels out.not a cloud all day. went and retrieved the unit at 6pm. it had charged *one* dot.so, 12 full hours of uninterrupted, blazing, mid-summer oklahoma sun charged it less than 1/4.in grid down, unless you have many so they can sit and charge for a week (assuming uninterrupted blasting summer sun), these will be useless after day one, if you had it fully charged to start with.do not buy these for extended emergency use. for an overnight power outage, fine. for multiple days? total waste of money. the panels are too small to be really useful, and are mostly for show and a sales gimmick.and if you toss it in a drawer for an emergency, it likely won't be charged if you need it anyhow. if you toss it in a window so it's constantly charging, you risk borking the batteries before you ever even use it.i have smaller, lighter, cheaper, higher capacity banks. better to use those and get a larger panel to charge them. this is just too bulky for what it does and is.
let's do a quick physics calculation.this battery pack has 25000 mah of energy storage, which is equivalent to 277.5 watt-hours of power.the solar panels, in perfect conditions with no energy losses and perfect direct sunlight, are supposed to provide 6 watts of power.this means that it would take over 40 hours of continuous perfect sunlight to recharge this pack from empty.what this means is that for most solar charging use-cases where you might be outside for a few hours or even days, the solar panels are probably not doing too much to extend this pack's capacity.it _might_ be useful for a backpacking scenario, where you only need to charge a phone or camera or gps thing like 2-3 times week, and you have continuous sun hitting the panels.anyway - this device is to make you feel like you have a cool self-charging battery, but realistically, these solar panels do absolutely nothing. might be useful in a real, bonefide emergency situation, but even then there might be better options.
it looked good and charged the device fast but wouldn't charge itself using the sun. whole purpose was to have a off grid charging source for charging device's while camping.
the charging port broke within a month of using it. the only way to charge mine now is to use solar power which takes a very long time to get to a full charge (which is expected for solar but still). i don’t use it anymore because i don’t have the time to try and charge it constantly when i might need it. maybe mine was a weird one off breaking but still, i’d investigate a different charger since this is pretty pricey for it to not work.
i purchased this in feb 2021 and mostly charged it via usb and used it when travelling. it worked fine for that until june 2023 (2 years). i went to top off the charge and the flashlight came on briefly, and the whole unit no longer responds. i can't consider this as part of any emergency pack, but it would be ok for travelling (if the cost/2 years was acceptable to you).
the solar panels are not charging at all, which was the sole purpose of buying this item. i'm traveling on the road, staying at national parks where there are not accessible electric outlets. this product has let me down completely. it only charges if i plug it in. moot point! waste of money. don't buy it.
nice capacity and quality. worked well out of the box. it is really quite heavy. makes a good leg’s workout when it’s in backpack. only used solar charger a few times for short periods to bolster the charge, mostly for the novelty and testing for “just in case”. only time i truly needed solar charging was power outage in dead of winter and not possible. though it’s large capacity definitely came in handy then!i bought it in june 2021 and in dec 2022 it will no longer accept a charge. don’t know if it’s the charge controller or the battery. it was in effect a large backup battery for me as i never had a sunny opportunity to need its solar charging ability. i would hope a backup battery would last longer than 18 mos though i understand these lithium batteries don’t tend to last too long. i got less than a dozen charges from it. i’m thinking a better investment is buying multiple smaller packs for $10-15ea instead. the odds are very good that at least half of them will still be working long after 18 months!
my testing shows i'm able to keep one phone going in perpetuity with this thing assuming low phone use, sunny days, and nobody stealing it from where i park it in the sun. all unlikely in a disaster scenario.
i used this probably 2 times and it worked great those 2 times. after that the battery would not charge with a cord or in the sun. i did not throw it around or get it wet or anything. it just stopped working. poor quality. spend your money on something that will last longer.
pros: well built with nice case. could be used in a disaster situation but not for everyday use.cons: doesn’t charge very quickly with the sun, took 3 days to even get to 3 of 4 charge. had to use the outlet to fully charge. was able to charge my phone and tablet once before it was empty.
the whole purpose of this guy is to charge something on the go. but you cannot attach this battery anywhere, there is no way to.it may work if you're backpacking, and you stay for a day to charge the battery from the sun, and then charge your electronics.. but it is not a typical backpacking scenario.so 3 stars.
i bought 2 hoping for a deal.it doesn't store a charge for very long and it takes forever to charge on even a slightly overcast day....but it does use the sun to build a charge. that you can charge 2 devices to full on a single pack is impressive.leave it on a windowsill and it will always have power...but that's all it's good for.i'm whelmed.
well built. charger works well if used as a wall plug on charger however. as a solar charging on a recent trip to the nv desert a lot left on the table1. took a long time to restore charge in direct sunlight almost two days2 pic show ability to hook horizontal on backpack. but fake photo. only has one loop to attach on the corner not tworeturned
