it’s great until it starts to get gross and there’s no way to clean it. i had to take it completely apart and there are still places i can’t clean because it’s glued together in places. absolutely disgusting. had to toss it buy a new (different) one
it worked fine for a few months, then the cheap plastic mechanisms started to break. i tried super glueing it back together which worked for a short time.
after looking at reviews and feedback on this item, i thought it was a good idea to purchase this ice maker and i was looking forward to using it. unfortunatley, i am dissapointed in how it worked. i will admit it was easy to set up and get going, and i gave it 24 hours standing up right for the coolant to settle as recommended for best performance. i gave it a chance to produce plenty cycles of ice. the flavor was fine, but the ice was more of a soft, hardly packed slush texture rather than pure solid ice. the ice that would fall into the basket would also be very wet, and as a result it would all freeze together into one big piece after a while in the basket and could no longer be scooped. overall a bad experience and would not recommend.
makes ice well, but even after several cycles the ice seems watery. when i move what’s in the basket to my freezer it freezes into a hard ball all together. the ice also melts quickly when used in a cooler.
this product does what it says: it does make ice. but do not confuse this with the ice from your kitchen freezer. freezer ice is made somewhere around zero degrees f, and will often be sticky to the touch. it will take a long time to melt and has a lot of cooling capacity. the ice that this product makes is just barely ice. my guess is that it is no colder than about 30 degrees f. it is wet, with a thin layer of water covering each piece. the bin that stores the ice is kept at just below freezing temperature, but it does not hard-freeze the ice the way a kitchen refrigerator freezer does. when you put the ice from this product in a drink, it melts quickly, and you need to use more of it than you would require from ice from the kitchen freezer, and it thus tends to dilute the drink more. this ice maker does make ice, but you should be aware of its limitations.there is also a minor design flaw. when new ice bullets are dumped into the storage bin, they tend to pile up near the sensor that detects when the bin is full. the result it that the machine thinks the bin is full when it is still nearly empty, and it stops making more ice. you have to manually move the ice away from the sensor so it will continue to make more and fill the bin. it is a nuisance.
ice cubes are very small. but the real problem is the ice melts while in the tray. it's winter and indoors we are about 68°f and when ice is full most of it has melted away. looks like a cheap design in all honesty. 2 stars because we do get ice but not as advertised.
this is the second silonn ice maker we've had. the first broke after about 6 months, and it took another 4 weeks before i was able to secure a replacement under the warranty. the amazon rep couldn't figure out how to contact the manufacturer, and the first manufacturer rep was incredibly untrained. after finally getting someone competent, we got the replacement item (the current ice maker).it worked fine until literally 2 weeks after the one year anniversary (i.e., just after the warranty lapsed). the actuator arm that dumps the ice from where it is produced to the container broke. the shoddy plastic arm wore out. i reattached it a few times, but then it just quit.i contacted the manufacturer and requested another replacement, but they shrugged their shoulders and then had the audacity to ask if i'd be interested in paying $15 for a replacement arm...i saw enough videos about the nightmare involved in trying to disassemble this piece of junk after the first one failed to know i'm not doing that.tl:dr- be ready to buy these annually because they're designed to fail right around the time the warranty lapses.
i got this ice maker because my old one died and this one had great reviews. this ice maker is so much quieter than my last one that beeped whenever it was full or needed water. the only downfall (unfortunately a large one) is that the ice that this ice maker makes has a strong plastic taste. i’ve had this ice maker for roughly a month and i thought the taste would be “better” by now.
we used ours regularly in a climate controlled room for 6 months, would even unplug it when leaving the house for a few days, and maybe after 4 months it became louder when making ice. now it doesn't make ice at all. every fill up went through our pur water filter so no tap water was ever used.there's a design/manufacturing flaw in the seal between the body of the top portion of the internal chamber and the mechanical backing of the ice maker, causing it to leak into the fan and wiring areas of the machine. each time the machine would pump water from the tank to the maker, it would spew a few ounces! simply put, our's started leaking internally, shorting the fan which causes it to overheat before it can make a single batch of ice. perhaps we're lucky it didn't start an electrical fire.side note, suction cup clip for the scooper just never wanted to stay on this thing either!
i used this every day for almost a year. it worked well but wasn’t easy to clean. the issue i had was the plug to drain was poorly designed. instead of a single piece it was rubber around a plastic core. eventually 8 months in i pulled the base to allow unit to drain well the plastic came out fine….the rubber not so much. need a chopstick to punch out. now i got no plug and the unit sits doing nothing…. doing research now on a better unit. it was fast and did its job and if i didn’t use it all the time it probably would be fine for occasional parties and what not.
i was curious how the tubing and parts inside were staying “clean”. so i decided to take it apart and look. the tubing was full of mildew and there is a section that is impossible to get to to clean. so even though i was religious about running the cleaning cycles and such, mildew and nastiness was still present. it’s also almost impossible to clean the metal nozzles where the ice is formed. yuk yuk yuk y’all. i was grossed out i had to throw the machine away because there is just no way to throughly clean where the water passes through.
