i loved the rubbermaid brilliance bpa free food storage containers at first. in fact, i still love them for dry good storage. but the containers i used for leftovers have been disappointing. despite the containers being marked for microwave dishwasher safe, they aren't. every single one that i've washed in the dishwasher and used for storing reheating leftovers is showing damage. they've developed micro-cracks along the sides corners. three of the containers have split completely on the side, rendering them unusable. for the price, i would expect them to be more durable. if you don't mind hand-washing these and removing leftovers to another dish for reheating, this is the set for you. but if you expect your containers to be used as indicated by the manufacturer, skip the rubbermaid brilliance bpa free food storage containers.
i can usually trust a review from america's test kitchen (atk) which advertised these containers as a good buy last black friday/cyber monday shopping season. perhaps they meant, good bye, as in, let these go. we don't microwave these containers or expose them to any kind of thermal shock. we do put them in the dishwasher, but not on heat dry. we are seeing cracks and cloudiness already, and have broken the edge on one of the tops, as they often seal so tight, they are difficult to remove. while the containers stack neatly, the tops fall all over because of the side clips. i'll be surprised if they make it to next thanksgiving. if this is best-in-class for storage containers, then i guess i'm going back to good ole aluminum foil. you have one job, rubbermaid.... one job!
these bad plastic design, develops hairline leak cracks after hand washing no micro no dishwash, worthless junk too expensive to be replaced every month. the other red top type of junk and develop microwave deterioration which is what they are suppose to be used for,
i was using these on a daily basis last year and they're all gone. every last one i have owned have cracked in various spots whether it's on the lid or the base.now my dishwasher has been broken for a long time so i have handwashed these items from day one, i do put them in the microwave, but never with the lid attached, the product is supposed to be microwave safe so i was definitely within average use when doing so. and lastly, i have never dropped these containers, they've never been on anything but the kitchen counter, on my car seat in transit to and from work, and on the lunchroom tables yet they somehow still managed to crack.it baffles me as to what causes this and i will not be spending any more time or money trying them out and hoping they won't crack when in use. i really wanted to like these, i used them all the time a few years ago and never had a single problem, so something must have changed in the quality of the manufacturing process between then and now. i'd definitely recommend purchasing something else.
when i bought these, i was very excited. they do exactly what’s on the label, leakproof, easily stackable, dishwasher friendly. i loved them. over time, i noticed cracks developing, maybe 8-12 months in. it seemed that any i put in the dishwasher would develop cracks. i contacted the company about getting them replaced under the warranty, and to my dismay, of the 25 or so that developed cracks (out of the 50 i bought), they only sent me 2 replacements. i told them about the warranty, and their response was they no longer have that warranty. then i wouldn’t have bought so many!
when they're new, no kitchen container works better. but they don't last that long. they crack and leaks develop. not happy about finding liquid all over the place because one of these containers failed. maybe they're not holding up that well in the dishwasher, even though i put them on the top rack. they should be made to be sturdier.
