i don’t know if it is due to me having a specific setup (desktop with three monitors, mac, and work laptop), but although having my mouse and keyboard supported, they would work intermittently. i had display glitches on a third monitor with my work laptop, and i know it wasn’t the dock because it worked well without a kvm throughput.
the triple monitor hdmi switching works well. it boots quickly. like every other kvm i've ever tried to use though, it struggles with anything more than the most basic mouse and keyboard. i frequently encounter missing key-up events, causing my computer to repeat values or the shift key (for example) to stick. their documentation suggests they can support more advanced devices, but that doesn't seem to be the case.i'm going to go back to running a usb switch along-side my kvm. for this kind of money, it is a shame that i have to run two different devices to get reliable behavior. if a $20 usb switch can work, why can't a $600 kvm provide the same reliability? if the issue is quick-key detection, then provide a feature to disable it. i've tried connecting through the two regular usb ports with no improvement.usb 2.0 also seems rather limiting too.
i purchased this kvm to use with multiple 4k screens. it worked fine for that. however, when attempting to use with non 16:9 monitors after upgraind my setuip, i was in for a nasty surprise.samsung oddysey g9: has a resolution of 5120 x 1440 (which is fewer pixels overall than a 4k screen) . i could only run at 3840x 1080 through this kvm. very disappointed. tried using cru / nvidia control panel to force the resolution, just wound up with fuzzy garbage. after contacting support, they told me that their dks402-p2 model supports those resolutions. however, i am not about to spend another 459 to buy a new kvm that supports my resolutions. this is now just a $500 usb switcher
works great after you set it up properly. there are a couple of items that are not explained or fully disclosed as to what you will need to connect to your pc/laptops. for each laptop or pc you will need an hdmi/usb cable which is provided in the kit to run from your pc/laptop taking up one hdmi and one usb port on your pc/laptop to the usb and hdmi -monitor port on the kvm switch (either a/b/c depending on which monitor you want which pc/laptop to display on). this only allows you to display up to three pcs or laptops on one of the three monitors (one pc/laptop of the four pc/laptops possible to be connected to the kvm switch to display on one of the three monitors). if you want to display each of the pc/laptops across all three monitors at once - you will need to two additional hdmi-hdmi cables per pc/laptop and two additional hdmi ports on each pc/laptop. here are the problems: one this is not made clear in the product descriptions to know this before purchase, two: there are not enough hdmi-hdmi cables provided to connect all possible four pc/laptops. there are enough for connection of three pc/laptops with one extra hdmi-hdmi cable, to hook-up four pc/laptops you will need to purchase at least one additional hdmi-hdmi cable, and three: you need to look at your pc/laptops carefully. most will not have three hdmi ports and a usb port. the normal standard for laptops is two usb, one hdmi, and one usb-c. to make this work you will therefore need a usb or usb-c docking station for each pc/laptop that does not have enough hdmi ports. in my configuration of three laptops connected to three monitors in which i wanted to display each of the laptops across all of the three monitors one laptop at a time - i needed to purchase three usb-c hubs with each usb-c hub having at least two hdmi ports. i connected each usb-c hub to each of the individual laptops via a usb-c port and then connected the two additional hdmi-hdmi cables into the usb-c hdmi ports and then to the kvm switch input ports for each pc/laptop connections for the two monitors not connected by the previous hdmi-usb cable. this was an expense that was not clearly identified in the purchase advertisement literature or even explained well in the product user-manual. i had to go out to the web and find third party videos and articles on the set-up before this became clear.
i really like the interface of this kvm so wish it would work for me.when connecting via docking port with dp alt mode, the display blinks. i tried various resolutions/frequencies, and had the same outcome with all. i had the same experience using a usb-c to hdmi cable.connecting from an actual hdmi output to the kvm worked fine. additionally, the displayport (software) connections worked fine.the lack of support for dp alt mode eliminates support for any docking port (at least dp 1.2). i do not have a usb4/thunderbolt4 system to see if it would work with dp 1.4.tech support was very responsive and for that i give them a 4, however, i had my suspicions regarding dp 1.2, but they insisted on dozens of tests anyway. i consider dp alt mode to be something that every kvm should support out of the box.
avoid, avoid, avoid, this product. if you want this to work consistently without you thinking about it, this is the wrong product for you.-- second unit issuesthis is my second unit from them. it doesn't work reliably. it will randomly drop connection to keyboard, mouse or both, forcing you to turn it off and on again and sometimes that doesn't even work. i have to do several power cycles of the computer(s), the kvm switch itself, unplugging and replugging things to get it to work again for a bit.originally, i was using top of the line logitech keyboard and mouse and this product doesn't work well with them. essentially anything with a bluetooth dongle this thing hates and doesn't work consistently. i even tried getting several wired keyboard and mice and still the drop in connection continues intermittently.also, don't expect any high end keyboard and mice that allow for customization to work with this product even over a wired connection. i even tried connecting to the shared usb port on the back that wasn't dedicated for keyboard and mouse to preserve the ability to customize my keychron keyboard. it was working for the first day, come back the next day, keyboard and mouse lost connection completely. had to switch back to the dedicated keyboard and mouse ports but lost all ability to customize the keyboard and mouse via software.-- first unit issuesanother thing, with my first unit, sometimes the screen on one of my 3 monitors would go completely black or flicker for no reason using both the provided hdmi cables or other better quality cables i tried. power cycling the kvm switch didn't fix it, changing cables didn't fix it. i returned that and bought another unit and got a completely different bag of issues.bottom line - don't waste your time with this like i have. save your money
