i bought this because it was labeled to be easy to assemble, but that was the furthest from the truth. the video is completely misleading — there are no hinges on this at all, it’s just interlocking hooks. all of the hooks were interconnected with the different pieces and i couldn’t get them apart to start assembling them correctly. i’m going to be returning it to buy something that is easy to put together .
we couldn’t open one of the two crates because the assembly was off during manufacturing that would have forced me to bend the wires…i know they don’t care but amazon needs to work on their qc leaving the child labor camps they use.
if i could get it assembled, this product might be terrific. however, the directions rely on poor graphics and no english so i’m putting it back in the box and sending it back. i regret this, but i can’t get it assembled.
a couple of issues:make sure you measure your dog and don't trust the size charts. we have a 13 high mini goldendoodle puppy and this is our second kennel. we made the mistake of getting the 36 one going off of the sizes amazon provides. there is no way a chihuahua, for ex, is appropriately sized for a 30 (unless your dog needs to be in a doggy mcmansion) and we were right. we returned the big one and it's much more appropriate.quality control is lacking. the large one we got was less beat up. though assembly is super easy, the wires bend pretty easily and ymmv. the clip holding the whole thing together on the second one is completely warped and the divider grate is also not warped and not seating properly. i haven't tried to fix it because... of the next issue.watch your fingers! not all of the wires are machines properly, and i sliced my finger open putting this together, simply by touching a ragged piece of metal. this is not a part my pooch will touch, but it was concerning. we had also purchased the amazon basics carry crate for our pup and i also sliced a finger open putting the metal grate door into that one too. :(fine for what it is, with these caveats.
so i ordered two small kennels for my new tiny house - one went together with little fuss - the other as a nightmare - the little divider panel (which i didn't need anyway) lays in the plastic tray with the kennel walls folded on top of it - try as i might, while i could get the top and two longs sides to rise up, the end panels were wedged in the divider panel - and would not budge - multiple people tried - no success. and because everything was so wedged, we could not get the plastic tray out to help easy the problem..... it has been returned and hopefully the replacement will be ok.
i bought this crate used from amazon shipped and delivered by them. the crate is fine. problem was the delivery and assembly. i am a single divorced woman average weight and height in my middle age. the delivery person left this outside of my porch causing me to get this heavy duty box up steps to my front porch, then into house. instructions were to leave on front porch! iam no wonder woman so this was difficult for me as i also have back problems. finally get it in the house and start the assembly which should have be simply pulling everything up and clipping securely. didn't happen! whoever boxed it clipped the single door clips to back panel. took me over an hour to release the clips and all of the strength i had left to undo the clip so i could pull it up. very disappointed in amazon delivery and assembly putting it in box . i checked the box not pleased with delivery that got me no where, also tried contacting them and same unhelpful questions came up again, none relating to my issues. phone call to amazon never got me to a live person to tell them about my issues. that's the reason for 3stars the product is fine. i have ordered 50 lb bags of dog food and always left on front porch. this is the first time i have had such a problem with amazon. this was a product that really needed to be delivered and packaged correctly. after this i will be seeing my chiropractor. amazon i am in good health, but not wonder women!
when my first large crate arrived and i attempted to set it up, i found the upper hooks stuck onto other parts making it impossible to simply pull the crate up to a standing position. a factory defect, i thought. i returned the unit and requested replacement. my second one had the same issue. in order to get it set up i had to pry it apart using pliers, screw drivers and a hammer. my suggestion is to ramp up quality control. look closely at the hooks for the top of the narrow end walls if you cannot get the side/top to come up as shown in online videos- get out your screwdriver, hammer and pliers. good luck. (the replacement was a hassle and i had to speak to a live person to get it done. shipping/delivery was lengthy.
it arrived clipped to itself, and it was impossible to unfold and put together. it was like solving a puzzle that had no answer. (do an internet search for “blivet” to see what i mean.)i’ve raised dogs for decades and i’ve never seen a wire crate arrive like this, despite owning three in the past. ridiculous. after 20 minutes i gave up. if my husband can’t figure it out tonight, i’m returning it.
the thin paper instructions were woven into the cage wire and tore when we tried to remove the pamphlet. no words, just confusing rectangle drawings with no designation of steps for assembly.i can see why they call it amazon basic. keep looking for another model.
we have another foldable, 2 door crate from another brand that we like very much. i was hoping this would be of similar quality since this one was actually more expensive. i was disappointed from the start. the metal feels thinner and less sturdy, and this was actually an issue when trying to set it up because the divider part had been jammed into the side, caught under one of the hooks and had a wire bent on it before i even began to set up the crate. i had to use a pair of pliers to pull on it to be able to release it from the other end of the crate. once the crate was assembled i realized the tray does not slide out of the bottom, which i would have prefered, but can be lifted out, which is not great if there was liquid on the tray. but my biggest issue was that it looked slightly smaller than our other crate. the description states this crate is 36x23x25. however when actually measured it is 35.5x22.5x24.75. half an inch here and there doesn't seem like much but it ends up being almost 1000 sq inches smaller in total size because of this. this crate is not a terrible one but there are other products for similar prices that are better quality.
i am fostering a small (57 lbs) german shepherd. pretty skinny. has heartworm, and after treatment we were to keep her in a crate to limit her activity. she'd shown not a lot of aversion to the crate, but she does hate being left alone, and our assumption that she'd settle down as she had in the past proved to be mistaken. she was able to bend and twist the crate and get out. i think that means the crate isn't sufficiently sturdy, but i was glad it was as pliable as it was when i was trying to set it up, as the hooks meant to hold it in place once upright were holding it together in the folded position, and it required grips and pliers to get the pieces apart to begin with. however, the pieces remained straight and were not the same pieces as the ones the dog bent (see photo). all in all, i feel like i totally wasted my money on this.
my husband and i could not get this crate together. there was about a 1/2” hight difference between the two side panels so the ends could not snap in place on top. also, on the end with the door, the little bent tabs on the corners would not fit with the end piece- some of the horizontal wires were in the way. this is not the first wire dog crate we’ve owned so we know what we’re doing. with so many 4- and 5- star reviews, i hope this was just a “one-off” manufacturing issue since this seems like a very study and economical crate.
this product is horrible, first there is a spring, so once the spring goes, you have no lock, it’s very flimsy, wire is not that thick, the handle is horrible you like snapping on, your dog is going to take that right off, it is not at all easy to assemble or take apart, so if you’re looking for something to travel with this is not it
i did a 2 for this reason… the latch is not great. i would not buy it again. the top and bottom portions of latch has to go in to a small beveled piece of metal and many times you have to struggle to get top and bottom pieces in for the correct latch.
once assembled the cage seems to be very sturdy. the assembly is more difficult than it needs to be if someone would make decent assembly instructions.
i received this is a large box with an amazon basics pamphlet. one page was in english. but is had no assembly instructions, just safety instructions, warnings, disposal instruction, cleaning instructions, specifications. feedback and help included an amazon phone number, which i called. it was customer service, who knew nothing about it. they contacted amazon basics and promised the'd call me back within 2-3 hours. but it's been 3 days now and no one ever called me back. so much for instructions on how to assemble the folded metal cage from china. no help whatsoever! i couldn't do it. something was also bet, two clamps, so i couldn't unfold it. i got a screwdriver, which my friend over the phone took a gues without seeing it. somehow, with her help on the phone we assembled it. don't know if it's right. there was an extra panel and a handle which i couldn't figure out where they go. any ideas? amazon basics didn't ever bother to return the call from the phone number listed in the pamphet for help. tough luck, let the buyer beware.
