the latches are slippery and you need two hands to open the doors. the panel to separate the crate into two doesn’t go all the way down and it has to connect to the side door. i use both sides for puppies to have their own sleeping area and this design makes me have to unhook the panel before i can open the door and it swings around while trying to get puppies out.
good crate but i hate the latch. i need 2 hands to open because the crate slides across my floor if i don't hold the entire crate with my other hand. that can be difficult when i'm holding the puppy.aside from that, it would have been perfect.
we purchased this for our golden retriever puppy and within 3 months the handle broke. when we first received it we were happy to see the latch mechanism was different than our old crate. it seemed easier to use than past crates we've had but unfortunately it didn't hold up. our dog still isn't full grown, so it isn't like she has been destructive or is large enough to damage a crate so all in all a disappointing purchase.
the door handle and latching mechanism are garbage. i’d have to imagine that you’d really hate this design if you have arthritis or other difficulties using your hands.
i got a 10 week old shih-tzu (tiny!) and within 2 weeks, he has figured out how to slide the latch on the door to let himself out with his paw. there is zero resistance on the latch and if i turn the crate on its side, the latch falls open. i have another dog crate i bought years ago (same size) but locks securely. i wish i had paid attention to this before buying. i now have to use a tie to keep the door shut. terrible crate.
i did a 2 for this reason… the latch is not great. i would not buy it again. the top and bottom portions of latch has to go in to a small beveled piece of metal and many times you have to struggle to get top and bottom pieces in for the correct latch.
i'm using this as just a feeding and water station for our cats, so that we can lock the dogs out when they are in for the night (little thieves!) it works fine for this application, but i'm not sure i would trust the basics level product for containing a dog.the latch does not actually lock in any way; it is just a spring loaded slide bolt type and the whole crate is made of much smaller gauge wire than american-made products like mid west homes icrates. i believe a dog (and probably cat) could claw and push its way into the door way by flexing this lightweight wire crate door. the real danger of course is if it can't get the rest of the way out and it strangles or suffocates because of the door squeezing the pet - a real danger for puppies! i see that one reviewer lost a beloved puppy this way.the divider panel is made of even lighter gauge wire, and there is no way of installing it that does not leave about a 2 gap between the divider and the floor of this crate. yet another potential death trap.the last real negative is that this is shipped via usps -having lost many of my amazon order so far. from our ring video of the postal carrier actually dropping the box onto our front porch and the lightweight cage construction, one panel was actually bent right out of the box.
