first it was bent and i got my fingers stuck in the wires when i was putting it together. i was in pain for a week this is dangerous for my dog she could get her paws stuck so no i'm throwing it away
got 2 of these for my dogs and they love them, but was closing it today and felt a sharp pain- looked and there was a tiny sharp piece of metal sticking out under one of the metal bars that punctured my finger, breaking the skin and made a small hole in finger.
received my order today and the crate was covered in rust, dirt, pollen and dead leaves. it still had the original tag on it so i guess that counts as “like new!” open box is one thing, heavily used and potentially dangerous for my dog is another.
a couple of issues:make sure you measure your dog and don't trust the size charts. we have a 13 high mini goldendoodle puppy and this is our second kennel. we made the mistake of getting the 36 one going off of the sizes amazon provides. there is no way a chihuahua, for ex, is appropriately sized for a 30 (unless your dog needs to be in a doggy mcmansion) and we were right. we returned the big one and it's much more appropriate.quality control is lacking. the large one we got was less beat up. though assembly is super easy, the wires bend pretty easily and ymmv. the clip holding the whole thing together on the second one is completely warped and the divider grate is also not warped and not seating properly. i haven't tried to fix it because... of the next issue.watch your fingers! not all of the wires are machines properly, and i sliced my finger open putting this together, simply by touching a ragged piece of metal. this is not a part my pooch will touch, but it was concerning. we had also purchased the amazon basics carry crate for our pup and i also sliced a finger open putting the metal grate door into that one too. :(fine for what it is, with these caveats.
i don’t normally leave reviews, but i’m feeling pretty frustrated. we have been using this crate for our puppy for about 2 months without issue. tonight, while i was getting ready for bed, i put our puppy in the crate and she laid down to go to sleep. the next thing i know, she starts screaming and when i got to her, she had a toe on one of her front legs caught in puppy divider. it took me 5 minutes to free her as her leg was somehow twisted under her and almost had to cut the wire with wire cutters. i ended up having to get in the crate with her in order to free her, which isn’t ideal when a dog is scared and in pain. i tried calling amazon and the customer service agent told me that since the 30-day return window had expired, there was nothing that they could do. he said i would have to contact the manufacturer, but when i pointed out that this was an amazon-branded product, he again said that since the 30-day return window had passed, there was nothing that could be done.
i won't add a photo of my asphyxiated precious 2-year-old catahoula family member stuck under the bars of the crate door. i had to use bolt cutters to free him from the crate. the memory of it will be burnt into my mind for the rest of my life. somehow beethoven pushed the tray out from the base of the crate and then forced himself between the bars that allowed the tray to slide into the bottom of the crate. unfortunately, he became stuck midway through and couldn't breathe and wasn't discovered until morning when he was no longer with us. the retaining clasps had been in place. a combination of engineering error, strength, determination, and ingenuity of my pup led to his early demise. please don't let this happen to you.
this is a bad design. the lower section below the door is caged like the rest of the crate, but my dog's foot gets caught in the open part every time he gets out. of course he screams like a banshee. it doesn't get stuck, but his paw goes right through the opening. bottom part should be solid like i'm going to have to do to this one.
cage is well made, however the mechanism to open the door failed within a month. without the positive pressure, my dog can get out….making item worthless, unless i tie or secure by secondary means.
if you have a larger dog i don’t recommend this. it broke within 1 day and nearly strangled my dog. we weren’t away from the house he just sees it as a challenge and tries to get out. normally we ease him into a new kennel with the challenge method, however this time it did not work. since the bars are so small he was able to bend 2 of them just enough to poke his nose through, then thought he could fit his head. if we hadn’t been home i’m afraid of what would have happened. for larger dogs get something sturdier. 2 stars because it is a great item for a much smaller dog. it just is not sturdy enough for anything larger than 40 lbs.
thank god we were home when he got his bottom jaw stuck and we were able to free him before any damage. now i don’t want to put him in it.every company that manufactures these should come up with a different design. i know this has happened to other folks.it is well built, strong and sturdy. other than that i have no complaints. i would give it 5 stars for that but all of the design is wrong..
one of my pups legs have gotten caught in the grate underneath the door twice since owning it for about a week. he yelps and screams bloody murder when it happens. i’m sure it’s only working against crate training, which is already difficult enough. i don’t love the door lock either, which is bulky and too strong. my crate is on hardwood and it forces the whole thing to slide when i try to open it with one hand.basically, this thing has been over engineered. wish i could buy a regular crate, like the one that my mom bought 10 years ago!
initially i loved this crate! the spring lock handles are very smooth, and it seems very well made. it was also very easy to fold and unfold. however there is a plastic handle that goes on the top of the crate that is extremely dangerous. we left our 40lb dog in the crate for a few hours and when we came home he had removed the handle and eaten half of it! we were terrified and immediately had to induce vomiting. please be careful with this handle! my dog could have been seriously injured. if you do choose to buy this crate, i definitely recommend not using the handle.
not sure if it was because it got a used one or if it’s just the mechanism but the lock would jam so i don’t think it’s a good crate in case something happens…
the cage arrived un damaged.. but during manufacturing of this one apparently the locking feature for one of the corners was overlooked.. i had to use zip ties.. other wise my pet could have pushed through the two sides.
while this product work fine as a travel and go kennel, it is not as durable as it seems. i have a 6 month old bear dog and she was able to bend the door and get out the bottom very easily. i wish the metal strips were larger and not as flexible. ours now is only used for temporary time when we need her out of the way but can supervise her.
the spring loaded door latch doesn't always make all 3 hooks fall into place when latching the door. our dog spotted a slight opening in the bottom corner of the door opening when the bottom latch didnt go through. she tried to push to get out. she got her head out and was strangling. i'm glad we were home and able to release the spring loaded door latch or she would have died. this cage is not safe. i reported it and amazon is picking it up from my home and refunding my money.
i tried just seeing if we could get a new door but that is not an option. it is not easy for me to return this big crate.i usually don't complain but we used this crate two short times and the spring load feature on the door doesn't work anymore. tried to use it without that feature (again, i don't like complaining) but my dog got out of it. so after three uses this crate is not usable. unfortunately should have went with a local store where it would be simple to bring it there without packaging.
why do co feel they have to fix something that’s not broke. the latching system is terrible a spring loaded double latch made of plastic when it would of been so easy to keep the old design of just lift and slide the latch. so when the spring and plastic latch breaks either of over use or my dog chewing it from the inside i may not be able to get the dog out quickly if needed. would not buy again
