i really like the idea of this charger and have used it for a while. however, i've had several instances in hotels where the plug will not stay in the outlet - especially if a wall outlet. i've tried to bend the plug prongs to create more tension, but that's not advisable, nor really possible. in particular, if the charger is in a wall outlet horizontally, the weight of the charger makes it fall of the outlet immediately. this is very frustrating when traveling and i don't have access to my apple charger.
this product was unreliable for me. the unit is very heavy, and the plug easily folds out of position so most times after a few minutes it is out of the power socket. if you need to plug it in straight, it will fall out in a matter of minutes. the only way i was able to use this was to purchase an adapter that allowed me to plug the charger into the top or bottom, so it stays plugged in. any other way and it folds, and you can leave it for hours not realizing it is not charging.
i like the power of this charger, but i bought it for travel and it is heavy and has a very hard time staying plugged to the outlet in airplanes and hotels. pretty much useless on planes. bummer.
not always, but quite often it will cycle power on and off, damaging the battery on my mobile devices (iphone, ipad, etc.). i’ve tried switching cables and ports but it’s had no effect which leaves the adaptor itself. this started malfunctioning just after the return period expired, so i’m unfortunately stuck with a $45 brick.
i bought this to travel to charge an ipad, iphone 14, and an apple watch. i have yet to get it to charge all 3, and it is a serious challenge getting it to charge my watch and phone. i replaced both charging cords thinking my cords were bad, but it still has issues. i bought it for travel and did not use it right away, or i would have returned it. i have tried it on 4 different trips with the same results. i put my watch and phone on it and have to mess with the plugs (unplugging and replugging in) until they both appear to be charging. one night though after thinking they were both charging, i went to bed to hear the charging bing a few minutes later. both my phone and watch continued to click in and out of charging (binging and lighting up even though they were both under 50% charge). i eventually unplugged my watch because my phone was more critical.update: i contacted anker and literally 2 of their suggestions were absolutely ridiculous considering what they are advertising this device for. here is a quote from their response: 3. if possible, try using a more powerful wall charger to pair with your wireless charger, as the current charger may not be providing sufficient power to charge all devices simultaneously. ... 5. if the issue continues, consider using alternative charging solutions, such as charging the devices one at a time to ensure a stable and consistent charge. so why have 3 outlets if i have to charge 1 device at at time per suggestion number 5. and 3 is try using a more powerful wall charger? really this is the response from anker. so bottom line is do not buy their products expecting them to do what they are advertised to do. no we are sorry or we will make this right. just a response to charge 1 unit at a time from a unit advertised to do 3 at a time. i was not even expecting 3 fast at a time. i would have been happy trickle overnight just 2 at this point. so on trips, i must be tied to an outlet and anker charger to continually rotate which device is charging. not practical or realistic when on business or vacation trip. i have purchased many anker products in the past and have never been so disappointed. i will try belkin in the future.
i purchased this charger to use when i travel. after only a couple of uses i started noticing the plug was not stable, it would wiggle and could easily unplug. i woke up several times to my devices not charged because the charger slowly unplugged and stop receiving charge. on my latest trip to europe, the product was useless, i had to add an adapter for european plugs to the anker charger and that was too much for the charger that it didn't hold inside the plug not even for a few seconds. i had to buy a new charger while overseas to keep my devices charged. i contacted anker and apparently my warranty expired 2-3 weeks ago and due to the strict warranty policies of anker, they can't help me. they instead offered me a 20% discount on a new anker charger... while i presume the 20% discount is potentially more costly for anker than simply replacing an old version of a charger. furthermore, it seems that the anker charger comes with a silicon stabilizer (apparently to solve my issue) but mine did not bring it. i asked anker to just send me that silicon stabilizer (i presume the cost of this is probably less than $1 for anker) but also the response from support is that because the warranty expired 2-3 weeks ago they can't help. for the most part i've been very happy with anker over the years, i've never had an issue in the past. however, it is good to know that the customer service is not as helpful as i anticipated because there are other vendors that do offer what i believe is a better customer experience. i now know to avoid anker in the future.
as a charger it is great: 2 usb-c to charge two devices, and 1 usb-a for legacy cables. charges fast. compact so excellent for travel, and solidly build.but, the way it plugs in, it sticks out horizontally, which if your outlet is not very snug holding the two prongs, means the charger has a tendency to come loose or fall out. this is made worse if using a high quality braided usb cable that are heavier, putting weights on it.in addition, the way it sticks out means it is more likely to accidentally hit it, knocking it loose or bending the prongs. sticking out that far also means that if your outlet is behind furniture or somewhere obstructed, it can take up too much room and won't fit.i really wish they turned the prongs 90 degrees, so when plugged it, it is oriented vertically instead of horizontally.
for the price of this, i expect a better design. i have a really rough time getting this brick to stay plugged into an outlet. due to its weight, length, and position of the fold-out plug, the brick works its way loose from almost any outlet i try it in. hotel outlets are the worst and it's a true balancing act to get it to not fall out. any movement in the charging cable or any passing bump will cause the brick to fall out of the outlet.
this is a small, powerful charger; it can power my 15 macbook pro. it looks and feels like very high quality.but...because of the way it's designed -- long and skinny with the plugs at one end -- it is very difficult. to keep it plugged in. the weight of the cords causes it to fall out of the socket easily. it will not stay in a loose socket at all; if the socket is tight, it's still easy to dislodge. i've woken up to dead batteries because the plug fell out of the wall during the night.
