this device has hardware flaws. on top of that roku’s customer service people in india think they are doing a favor by answering their customer’s questions. netflix and youtube keeps crashing. roku blames your internet speed. ease of use is a problem if you want to find your local channels which are free.
we got the roku streaming stick 4k to replace our previous streaming stick. it has beautiful picture, streams well, plenty of storage to store play back (a problem with our previous device,) and the user interface is easy to use and intuitive.but, it drops connection every day. we have this device set up in the bedroom and literally, every night, we have to reconnect it to our wireless network. since it's in the back room, there's no way to directly connect it to the internet. a small inconvenience every night, but that builds up to frustrating when it should be a basic functionality of the device. it feels like when we're trying to get our kids ready for bed time, it's become a nightly ritual and if we skip a step the whole thing falls apart, lol.we've tried troubleshooting with what we've found online, but all that did was made us discover that we're not the only ones with this issue.other than that, very pleased.
the most frequently used buttons on the remote have ceased to function. i did purchase in november 2022, it’s july 2024, but i’ve never had remote buttons just stop working before. the build quality seems not great. additionally, it seems to lag connecting to the internet more than any other device hooked up to the internet. my cellphone (which is almost 6 years old) or another smart tv (older than the phone) seem to load faster.i contacted roku support. i had to use one of those painfully slow chat features to try to fix the issue. they first made me do all the troubleshooting one should probably do before contacting support. over thirty minutes and i’m still being told things like check the batteries, re-pair it, make sure the batteries are the correct way, etc. ultimately, they agreed to replace the remote, just to get repeatedly get disconnected. it’s been over an hour and thirty minutes, still can’t seem to get a remote sent. ultimately, was told the remote was out of warranty, but that i should also contact amazon for a replacement? when i was referred through amazon?a lot of the stuff they asked about me or the remote is information that should be associated with the roku account you are forced to create and the app you have to download for anything to be functional. if they make me input all that information, why do i also have to provide it again? why do they even need to have an account and app to begin with.would not purchase again.
do not buy any of the newer roku’s. i’ve had roku’s for years now and have probably bought 5 or 6 in my lifetime. the last two i’ve purchased have had faulty remotes. batteries need to be changed a couple times a week and it has trouble staying connected. it’s always asking me to pair a remote. this is apparently a very known issue.contacting customer support is a nightmare. they will do anything to blame the problem on you. finally they will concede the issue and tell you we’ll send you a replacement. 3 months later still no replacement and no response from customer service other than to ask how they did with their support.product is garbage and support is worse. switching to apple tv.
since i recently bought this it has had constant issues staying connected to the wifi. each time i put the roku on i see the massage not connected and after finally getting it to work it loses signal during a movie. i even upgraded my internet. nothing else in home loses connection or lags.
i have 3roku tv,s and 3roku sticks, the last one i brought in december 2023 has been a pain in the but. i have tried all the fixes,keeps losing wifi connections and the sound goes out. don't have that problem with any of the others
i think i received a slightly defective unit. it acted strange from the very beginning; sometimes it just wouldn't connect, while other times it worked just fine. because it was my first unit, i thought this may not be worth returning. now that it completely nonfunctional (4 months later) i guess i should have exchanged it when it was new. not sure if i should order another roku.
this thing worked fairly well for quite a while, had some minor issues that seemed to be resolved by using a dedicated usb power adapter. the most irritation i had was logging into the max app using the roku remote, instead of activating on another device like the other apps will let you do. but that's on max, not roku.seems like all of a sudden this thing just crapped out. remote barely seems to work; i.e. you push buttons and 20s later maybe something will happen on the screen. reboot the thing and it fails to connect to my wifi. try to reconnect to wifi, but oh yeah, the remote is barely working. clear the saved wifi password, retype password and magically it connects. try to open hulu/max/whatever app and the system lags so hard it won't even stream a single video. i highly suspect there's an over-heating issue with this model. no active cooling and it's stuck right behind my tv panel with minimal airflow.i've been through this once before, and a factory reset seemed to help. but it looks like the problem reappears over time. so sick of this thing, it's going into the trash. save yourself the headache and get something else.
constantly loses connection which makes the remote not work. so every time it disconnects you have to restart the tv. this is the only item on my network that can't keep a signal.
no problems for about the first month but after that a constant source of irritation. used to connect with wifi immediately but now it may take up to a minute or two to connect. sometimes it connects and there is no sound so you have to power off power back on wait a minute or two for it to connect and will then have sound or sometimes not and you must do it again. the remote gobbles up batteries they only last a month or so but the most frustrating part is it will tell you batteries are dead but they are really not. if you remove the cover over the batteries, pop them out of the remote, reinsert them it will work fine. you will have to perform this procedure once or twice daily but you can get another month or two out of the batteries. i have other remotes used daily that will have a battery life of 3-5 years. also depending on what tv brands you have the stick can have little quirks like giving you error messages etc. have wanted to smash controller in to wall so many times i can't count but like i say what do you expect for $50.
i have an older roku attached to one of my tvs that works fine. i bought one of these newer ones when i got another tv and unfortunately it has not been working as smoothly.some issues i have been having:1.) the remote will randomly stop working (no, it’s not the batteries) and i have to press the restart button on the roku stick to get it working again.2.) it will randomly stop my shows and say it is disconnected to the internet, and when it does that it does not let me click anything to try to fix it - again, i just have to press the restart button to get anything working again. when i do that, book it’s connected to the internet again without me having to do anything (pretty sure it was never disconnected in the first place it just wants to act like it.)both of these things are super annoying and disappointing after having a positive experience with my older roku.
