we bought these just incase, which is why they're supposed to carry a 5 year shelf life expiration date on the packages. which they have. but the quantities were way off.for the 2 person kit. it is suggested each person be given 4, 4.225oz packages of water per day, the enclosed quantity should be 24 pouches of water. our kit contained only 6.the ration bars are made for someone with a vice grip jaw and razor sharp teeth. there is absolutely no way someone with dentures, implants, and missing teeth are going to be able to eat those things.the medical kit was substandard containing on 3 small bandages, no gauze or antiseptic present, the scissors wouldn't cut soft butter. my 5 year old grandson has sharper scissors in his desk at school.there's 3 emergency blankets, 1 poncho, no water purification tablets, but you get a plastic water bottle for what? water is pre packaged.the 4 person kits comes with water packaged in 1lt. cartons. that's 33.33 oz of water per person/ day. in the 2 man kit it offers 16.9 oz of water per person/day. half the amount of the 4 man kit.the food was the same brick hard block of energy bars, there were 4 sets of clear goggles, water purification tablets, a wind up flash light with usb charges for your phone included. however the connectors are obsolete and unusable. why? did anyone pay attention?
this survival bag is depressing. it’s no bigger then my 2 yr old. it’s not very light weight or thick. the value of this bag i could make my own that would be way better. the first aid kit in this bag basically covers scraps and scratches. the food rations is ridiculous. in the case of an emergency i’d rather take my chances and leave this bag on the shelf rather then grabbing it. i sure hope it’s returnable.
so, this is ok, for the price... you probably can't expect much more. note: the backpack is tiny and not sturdy at all... it's the size of a backpack a very, very small child might use. also, the listing is misleading... for instance, you do not get 12x pouches of water... you get 8x tiny waters packaged in tiny juice box fashion... even the box you receive in the backpack says right on the outside that inside there are 12x pouches of water, but when you open said box there are 8x juice box waters. also, the listing photo and description show/state you get 2x proper particulate masks... but what you actually get is 2x of those crappy blue paper masks that cost less than 1 penny a piece. also, the “gloves” are a pair that come in those bulk boxes of 100 pairs you can get at costco or sam’s (so literally worth nothing)… and the way they’re packed with the “masks” in a flimsy cheaper-than-a-ziploc-bag, they won’t be clean or sterile when needed for use either. some of the perishable items don't have a shelf life of 5 years... i mean, they may have at one time, but not by the time you're sent the backpack. please be aware the first aid kit is a tiny, 3 in wide x 4 in tall (less than .5 in thick) pocket size joke... not a first aid kit by any stretch of the imagination. but, for the price, it's maaaaybe worth popping one in your car... however, please know this is not a proper bug out bag that's going to help you much in a real emergency... if your toddler can carry something while the rest of you carry proper bags, this may be it... also, it's definitely not going to sustain 2x people for 3x days.
i receive this kit as a gift and it was missing items. i was told by manufacture that item was out of stock and was unknown when it was coming in. water was leaking and food was open. terrible kit.
i purchased this as kind of a starter kit, and while it helps to give you an idea of some useful things to put together, it really falls short in delivering several of them. what i found was that it had the cheapest possible versions of everything it was providing. after getting this and looking what was in it, i pretty much started from scratch with a new bag (the one that came withthe kit has a single stitch that was already failing when i first opened it with a 3-inch tear by the zipper).for ~$40, you get a good starter kit, though:emergency food barswateremergency blanketsvery basic first aid kitlight sticksdust masksnitrile gloveswhistleponchostissuemy problems are as follows:the backpack was falling apart from the get-go.the first aid kit was too basic to be very useful (it's the kind that you might toss in your back pocket for daily carry).the emergency blankets are pretty standard and cheap to buy.the 12-hour light sticks are easily and cheaply upgraded to the 200hr led glow sticks for $5 per 3-pack at home depot.dust masks can be had at the dollar store.gloves are really cheap (the ones that came in my kit were replaced immediately as they were just too cheap to rely on).the whistle is just a whistle.ponchos are pretty standard and cheap to buy.tissue could be replaced with a ziplock bag of tissues and be just as effective.if you're looking to build a cheap emergency kit, look at the individual contents of this and decide what you need. if i were ever to rely on this, i would be a bit afraid. that said, after buying this i had a lot of fun rebuilding it with an i can get better attitude and ended up spending quite a bit more buying better versions of its contents and filling some gaps. $40 isn't too bad a price to get at least part way there, but i can't see why they even bothered with such a low quality backpack to hold it all, as i'm pretty sure i use higher quality grocery bags.
it holds all the included items fine, but is too small for me to many personal items. meaning -- there's minimal leftover room. i could work with it if the backpack had loops so i could use carabiner hooks to add additional bags, but it doesn't. the first aid kit will need to be replaced. it's basically a few bandaids and a sterile wipe. the included water won't be enough to support two people for three days. don't count on it to survive.
