this survival bag is depressing. it’s no bigger then my 2 yr old. it’s not very light weight or thick. the value of this bag i could make my own that would be way better. the first aid kit in this bag basically covers scraps and scratches. the food rations is ridiculous. in the case of an emergency i’d rather take my chances and leave this bag on the shelf rather then grabbing it. i sure hope it’s returnable.
only 5 year expectation. very heavy with water packets and two blocks of food. good was not eatable. mountain house is a better brand for freeze dried food.
the food in the bag expires aug 2020, its advertised to have a 5 year shelf life. the water also expires july of 2020. if the food and water truly at this date had a 5 year shelf life this bag would at best be used in the car. i was disappointed with the contents quality.
backpack zipper broke the first time i unzipped it. unfortunately, i didn't unzip the thing until about ten days too late to return. would be nice to have the ingredients to the food bars ahead of time - turns out i'm allergic. rest of the contents are ok, will just transfer to another bag.
i am a single man and i thought this would be great for me so i would have more then i would need or if i had someone with me, i would already be prepared for that. i am not sure where they got their emergency survival numbers for the water and food, but they are drastically off. if this pack better then nothing? yes. will it last two people three days? no.water - all of the survival books, blogs, and videos i have read or watched suggested a minimum of 1 gallon of water a day = 128 oz. each water bags gives you 4.225oz. for a total of 50.7oz! this is not even half of your daily recommend water intake. a gallon of water weighs in at 8lbs, so test out the weight in your bag before you need it. any water is better then none, but a little pain is better then dying of thirst.food - 4800 calories for 2 people would last 2 days a piece would would break it down to 1200 calories a day per person, which is the bare minimum you need if your not doing anything.medical kit - you could probably get by with this tiny medical kit if nothing happened to you other then a scratch.bag - tiny red book bag looks fit for a 10 year old kit, not a teenage or an adult. you should be able to pick up a cheap book bag somewhere that is much bigger then this.bottom line - the food and water you can buy from this company could keep you alive (i haven't tried either one yet, but i do mean to), however, you need more then they are offering. i haven't returned mine because i am just going to add to it, starting with a bigger bag. i have a bug out bag and a 3 day vehicle bag. this info is for a 3 day vehicle bag because every pound you might have to carry if your car runs out of gas, unlike being able to store it on the shelf at home.
i receive this kit as a gift and it was missing items. i was told by manufacture that item was out of stock and was unknown when it was coming in. water was leaking and food was open. terrible kit.
as pointed out in other reviews, this product is mislabeled. it is really a 2 small children or 1 large pre-teen child supplemental survival kit. it is totally inadequate for 2 adults or teenagers, and might do in an emergency for 1 adult if generously supplemented.basically, you would be buying this for the additional food and water.so, it is good only as a child's survival kit backup to a 3-4 person family survival kit.one task i had to perform was putting all the water vulnerable items in zip-loc quart and gallon bags to protect them against drenching rain.
i would have rated this higher--i think it's a great little starter kit that gathers the essentials in a convenient pack. i had been buying canned food and bottled water and keeping it in a bag, but it was bulkier and had to be replaced too often.however, the food water in the bag that i received was packed in november 2012, so it's only good until 11/17. it's still a little ways off, but advertising that it includes food with a five year shelf life doesn't really help if for all intents and purposes it only has a 3.5 year life.a relatively minor gripe, but a gripe all the same since it's not 100% as advertised. still, a solid pack at a good price, so as long as you are aware you might not get as much mileage out of the expiration date, i'd recommend picking it up.
i don't think this bag is worth it's cost, even through amazon and prime. but it got me started on my go bag. first off, the water provided is good enough for 1 day of water for 2 people so already it's lacking compared to advertised. i didn't even look at the food, but people need water much more than they need food. we can survive weeks w/o food compared to days without water.the other items are useable but not great. i put everything from this kit into a larger comfortable (read you can carry it for miles) bag then i put some led lights in it as well as a knife, starter sticks and some medicine. my kit will grow over time i'm sure.this is something i wanted to start on years ago but never did. buying this kit got me focused on it, even if it's overpriced for it's contents.i live in the bay area, ca where threat of natural disaster comes in the form of an earthquake. being prepared to leave your home is a reality here.
