this is our second ice machine from silonn and it's just broken this week- the last one broke last july as well and they replaced it. this summer i've had to clean it a lot more but the rust stains from the metal components can't be removed. i gave up trying to clean the pink growths in the back- almost impossible to get back there to clean so a vinegar clean cycle is the only option, which doesn't remove any debris that collect in the back or the moving bucket of the ice making apparatus. door doesn't seal out bugs (yes we find them floating in the water tank) and there's no place to store the scoop without taking up ice space.
ice maker was good for the first year. only complaint would be the cleaning. even doing the weekly cleaning (as recommended) still parts are hard to clean. and take a lot of work and tools to get into crevices.unfortunately, this product literally lasted until 3 days past the warranty and i started having problems. called customer service and was told too bad nothing can be done past the warranty date. if i wanted to fix it myself, i could purchase parts through their parts department. if you need this product for only a year. highly recommended.
i don’t recommend this ice maker unless you like paying over $100 for a machine that lasts only six months. i’ve cleaned this machine weekly using the self-clean function with white vinegar. a couple of weeks ago, i noticed mold was building up in the top back portion where the prongs cool down. with no luck, i’ve used multiple small cleaning brushes to clean this area. when i sent the pictures and my concerns to the manufacturer, they dismissed my email. they sent a generic response explaining that the only way to clean their product was to completely disassemble the ice maker by removing the hardware holding it together. i mention this because this is not in the instructions and is no easy task for regular cleaning. if you don’t mind paying over $100 for ice cubes every six months, then be my guest.
this thing will accumulate grime in places that you can't possibly reach and there's no easy way to open it up without opening up the bottom and sides, and basically taking the whole thing apart.it works fine as an ice maker long enough for people to review it well but eventually it will get dirty and then its a nightmare.
we love this ice machine, we have had it almost a year but the mold growth is crazy and gross. i clean it regularly and still there’s mold. i saw someone use vinegar water and a cloth so i’m going to try that but definitely disappointed in the design and not being able to clean it easily or take it apart.
i got one of these for christmas. it works great. it makes ice in 7 minutes. but it gets disgusting and it's impossible to clean. we only use filtered water in ours too. the self cleaning mode doesn't actually clean it. you have to get in there with q-tips and toothbrushes and everything because the part that dumps the ice out and only opens when you turn it on and off is impossible to reach or clean properly. it took me hours to get the stupid thing completely clean. it was shocking how disgusting it was inside of there. it was literally black and i had only had it for a couple of months. i'm going to have to buy a different one that isn't impossible to clean.
i absolutely love my icemaker but noticed it was getting this really dirty red looking stuff at the top of it i tried to clean it but cannot reach it and cannot take it apart don’t know what to do at this point
warning: cleaning mode doesn't really work. it's very difficult to effectively clean this unit by hand too. within 3 months, it got gray chunks of bacteria build up despite using filtered water. cleaned it thoroughly with white vinegar. the bacteria came back within weeks. i got very sick and needed antibiotics. avoid.
this ice machine worked great…for about a year. it gets very dirty very fast and must be cleaned once a week. it only lasted about a year before it stopped working completely. not worth the money.
ok, so i’m a bit of a clean freak when it comes to my appliances. especially, the ones where we are consuming what’s made. now, for this ice maker, we only used purified or distilled water in it. the ice tasted so much cleaner and helped our drinks taste better. that being said, i’m not sure how this ice maker got so dirty from purified/distilled water! i would have to clean it once a week because of it. somehow, there were black specks in the water well, and the portion where the ice was made was becoming calcified. also, it was hard to clean inside the upper portion where the ice was made. it had gotten pretty dirty and while trying to make sure i got up in there, i broke the basket on the side. i can see it move, but it does nothing. so, that being said, be extra careful when cleaning it.
the white part that pushes out the ice gets so dirty after a few months and it’s impossible to get to. it’s so skeevy, i threw out the entire thing. who knows how long i was drinking with this build up?! you can’t open the machine to get to it and it doesn’t come out.
we really love this machine and have had it for almost two years. we clean it as per the instructions every month. but when we cleaned it two days ago we saw all this grime in the basin at the top where the actual ice is made. we've looked through the instruction booklet and we've attempted to clean it but it's seems impossible without taking the machine apart.
i used this every day for almost a year. it worked well but wasn’t easy to clean. the issue i had was the plug to drain was poorly designed. instead of a single piece it was rubber around a plastic core. eventually 8 months in i pulled the base to allow unit to drain well the plastic came out fine….the rubber not so much. need a chopstick to punch out. now i got no plug and the unit sits doing nothing…. doing research now on a better unit. it was fast and did its job and if i didn’t use it all the time it probably would be fine for occasional parties and what not.
my roommates and i purchased this for our college apartment. it worked for a little over a year before the inner fan stopped working, casuing it to stop producing ice. mold grows quickly inside, so you must clean it every 1-2 weeks or so. it is very difficult to clean the back part that creates the ice, and the self-cleaning cycle does not effectively clean it. this is worth it if you only need it for a short time, but definitely invest in something better if you want this long-term!
