i really hate to leave a bad review on amazon, especially because i love tomtoc’s 12.9 inch ipad sleeve, but this one is a miss.when i put my macbook in here, and closed the zipper, i heard a quick sort of muted metallic “syyysss” kind of noise, and when i slowly opened the zipper back up, i noticed a faint little scuff. i have a silver laptop, but if someone had a darker space gray colored laptop i would imagine this would’ve actually removed the anodized coating.i’m not even one to care about scuffs and dings, it adds character and they’re inevitable, i’m just kind of buffering at the fact a product meant to protect the product from scuffs and dings, is causing a scuff on the corners. the sleeve needs to be made just a bit bigger to accompany the larger size.the zipper does feel nice, and the external pocket also has a zipper that feels nice to open and close. it does fit the 96w charger that comes with the laptop, including the brick. the sleeve i feel is what i like to call, “north face rated water resistance”, in which i mean the sleeve doesn’t allow a flood of water to reach your laptop, but given a drizzle, your laptop may become “humid”.speaking of north face backpacks, i own the surge, a pretty decent sized (normal) backpack, and while this sleeve fits, it definitely takes up some room, more so than the images of it would lead you to believe.i would imagine it’s protective from bumps, even while it’s scuffing your laptop in the meantime.i always like to lead myself to believing it’s my fault, but i truly don’t see how a fully naked laptop sits all of the way at the bottom of the sleeve and then still gets scratched by the zipper being my fault because i do take the utmost of care.
i got this case because i thought it was thin and had end protectors. turns out it is very bulky and the corner protectors are none existing. the inside of the bag is very soft and doesn't scratch your laptop. the corners doesn't have a hard protector material, you will for sure bust your laptop if you drop it on one of the corners. so if you are looking for a thin bag that still offers protection against fall, this is not it.
as some other reviewers have noted, this case leaves some kind of white power residue on the laptop. my concern is that this fine powder gets sucked into the laptop cooling system and decreases it's efficiency over time.
i bought this case because i saw a guy review it on youtube. i even read the description, and it specifically said for apple macbook air 2020 m1. i was so excited but when i put it on, it barely fit! i was able to get it in once but it is such a struggle and it puts a lot of pressure on the laptop. i don't want to risk ruining the finish. i read a review here saying that with continued use, the circular pads ruined the finish of their macbook. i should've listened to the critics. i wonder why only the top reviews are easily seen.
i can’t really say this product is durable. especially because they mention military grade. the damage could’ve been worst without a case but i expected no damage at all. my laptop slipped out of my hand while in its case and dropped on concrete. this was the result.
this item is not fully advertised. the inside part is made up of large bubbles that seem to be able to leave imprints on the laptop. i thought sleeve would be well padded with a soft interior. this is not how this product is made.
it is a good quality product can't deny it, but it's basically half-usable. the front pocket or the one for accessories is useless because is way too tight and you can't put much in it and also when you enter your hand, it's most likely you will get a scratch or get hurt with the zipper for this reason.on the other hand, the protection for the laptop is good, but it also makes it quite heavier than expected so it isn't that great for taking it everywhere.
under no circumstances should anyone use this product. it completely destroyed the aluminum finish on my brand new macbook pro. the markings left on my computer clearly resemble the bumps on the inner lining of the case, and they are completely permanent and cannot be removed. as visible in the images below, the otherwise flawless shell of my laptop is tarnished by a polkadot-like pattern left from this case. i spent over $1,800 on a brand new laptop and purchased this case with the expectation that it would protect my investment. in reality it did the exact opposite. i would like tomtoc to compensate me for the damage their product did to my property, so if you have not already purchased one, save yourself the trouble and simply avoid their products so that you don't have to go through the same ordeal.
when i got this sleeve i actually liked it it feels good and looks that is going to protect my computer. but i'm noticing that it is leaving marks on my computer, tried to remove them and that didn't work, had to stop using it since it is damaging my laptop more than it is protecting it.
