presentation and packaging. it’s nice. but you should also knowing that every single future of this you must be paying for subscription for you to be able to watch any of the channels
lo compré para usarlo en ecuador y no funcionó, no presentaba la opcion para buscar aplicaciones solo venia ya instalada facebook y netflix aplicaciones que si tiene mi tv. lo necesitaba para max y no pude instalarla
i bought this for my sister but she was not happy that setting up a free roku account not only required a birth date but also a valid payment method. i've had older roku devices for years, and i don't remember ever needing to provide a payment method. it was presumed that you’d set up your apple tv+, prime video, hulu etc. accounts separately and simply enter your credentials as necessary.she ended up nopeing out on the payment method part, and i don't blame her. it's also extremely invasive to require a birthdate in my view, when setting up a free account. so a factory reset and a refund request it is.
in the usual modern way that everything in life is a grubby effort to extract money from you, roku requires that you register your credit card and some personal info in order for this to work.naturally they argue so that you can then seamlessly purchase programs, but i purchased this stick (my second one) to watch the free old-time tv programs. no need for your credit card for that!advertising is one thing, but how can i give a gift to a young person they does not yet have a credit card?otherwise easy to set up and use.
every single evening we would use this it would freeze up on max, hallmark etc. we would get an error message saying something went wrong, please try again... the problem was even the go back button you are supposed to hit to fix it would not work because it would be frozen and so would the remote, the address to contact to get help was also useless...just told you a list of everything you of course, have already tried.. duh! meaning, nothing would work except unplugging it every single time. which then required us to completely sign all our account information back in again, one night we did this 2 times and then another 2 times we had to just unplug it to restart the movie.. now imagine doing that 4x in just one 2.5hr movie!! talk about frustrating, and of course, that was only in every action scene and climax. talk about ruining a vibe! we kept it for a week and this never stopped, not even one night. read lots of reviews saying that was a problem, but thought since we have a new smart tv, (by samsung), we recently purchased and everything is all up to date, plus we got a new router box from xfinity very recently, (having the newest wifi version), we would not have the same problems like everyone else. we were totally wrong! honestly, we have always purchased roku devices. we have them on all our tv's, but wanted to update, since recently they have all started to freeze and lag a bit. thought it was just because they were getting old, now i think it's just roku. well, we did give it 2 stars because the picture seemed to look better than our smart tv anyway ( or maybe that's in our heads). sadly, we are sending this back. gonna have to give the new amazon firestick a first time try, see if it's any better. won't keep it either if it freezes... defeats the point of watching a movie, right! so very frustrating this week of tv has been!
images and branding of image leaded me to believe you just had to plug the stick into the back of the tv, but it still has to have wires connected. the stick design seems more to sell an idea as opposed to a functionally easy product to use. once installed , product works exactly as described. easy to use interface, no problems what so ever. i just thought there wouldn’t be wires. my mistake.
i've used roku devices for over 20 yrs. this device hangs more frequently than the obsolete roku express devices we were using. if fact, hanging was so bad with one that i returned it and re-installed old roku. with remaining new devices, i have to manually reset the device at least every other day due to hangs locking up remote - real pain when using step stool to reach mounted tv's. in addition, i have to restart the device at least every other day using the remote because of hangs. netflix hangs more frequently than channels. ** roku keeps adding icons to the home screen that i can't delete - very inconvenient. voice remote opens icon channels well but not as helpful with searching or other functions. i find the voice remote helpful. ** we stream over 95% of what we watch using multiple services: netflix, max, mgm+, hulu, etc. yes, we have more than adequate internet capacity and nearest neighbors are over 40 feet away. next time, i'll stay away from roku stick go with something that i can easily restart manually.
requires credit card other personal information to activate now we have 3 tv remotes, ughin hind-sight, a smart tv would have been better, but obviously more expensiveseems to be working as intended
this is the 3rd roku we’ve purchased on amazon. all 3 were the same product just different models since the 1st 2 were purchased a few yrs prior. we love how easy it is to set up. however for some reason the last tv getting a roku requires it to be plugged in to a power source. the roku box includes the adapter but no power cord. apparently the newest model no longer includes it. lucky for us we still had the old box and we’re able to use that cord. i don’t know why this tv needed power but i’d be very upset if i had to lay out more money for the cord. i noticed apple has also stopped supplying the cords as well. i suppose it’s just another way for these big companies to save money. and then make more when we need to purchase it from them separately.
we ordered this so that we could stream from various sources that we use at home - netflix, pbs passport, youtube tv, etc. -, on tvs we find in vacation rentals. sounded like a great idea. i never finished the installation after finding that there was no way to limit roku’s sharing of information it collects and that setting up a required roku account requires honest responses to intrusive questions for “marketing purposes”. that coupled with the fact that roku demands a credit card, even though we have already subscribed to the services we want, and that the roku home screen shows advertising just makes the roku more trouble than it is worth for casual, infrequent use. we are returning it. why cannot someone sell a simple hardware device without bombarding us with unwanted advertising?
