putting three stars instead of one so people read this. just google this product not charging and see what you find. on the roku site itself, multiple people returning and purchasing and this thing failing to charge. all roku ever says is try and reset the device and use another cable. if you're going to get roku, make sure it just takes standard aaa batteries. this thing sucks.
i have had this for about 5 months and within the first month the remote stop working--changed the remote batteries even took off the squishy arrows so i could access the actual buttons. needless to say i would like this way more if the remote wasn't crap.
i bought three roku streaming stick 4k just two months ago. the remote controls were rechargable. the roku streaming stick 4k i just received has alkaline batteries. wth?
overall it's great, there's airplay on it but sometimes it lags and i'd have to remote it from the power outlet and then put it back in and turn it on for it to be fixed which is not exactly convenient but as for streaming quality it's good.
have several older rokus throughout my house which are 2016, 2018 vintage and they just keep on working with no issues. this new model started having remote problems after about a year and a half. remote symbol will show up on tv screen. began changing batteries. when the remote symbol shows on screen, the remote will not work. try restarting roku and it will work for a while but then repeats. will drive a sane person insane after a few months of dealing with this. worst thing is don't know what to buy next, if this is their latest and greatest!
we purchased a new lightset not a returned refurbished light set. if i wanted a already used item. that is what i would have purchased i did not expect the remote to not work and to be scuffed, i also did not expect the battery to no longer work. obviously the person that purchased it before us used the item until the battery did not work period.
i’m definitely to the point of regret with this 4k stick. too much advertising just like ama7on. and the remote works intermittently. the buttons and batteries are fine and all of a sudden the remote just won’t work. you have to wait a lil bit and it will start working again but who the heck wants that. netflix hasn’t been working well on it for a while now. max app runs and loads slowly. oh, and if you do decide to buy the roku anyways, make sure to get one with the rechargeable remote because you go through batteries like crazy if you don’t. (if you use it a lot.)
used to be great. i have rental houses and stocked them all with roku but they have battery drain issues. not all of them but some go through batteries every few days. took me a while to figure it out but there are several blog posts where several customers are having similar issues. switching
received unit with old, weak batteries, {insulating tab installed as received). remote operation intermittent with frequent lock ups. contacted ram at roku support website (chat box) about problem. chat suspended after ram no longer responded. received follow up email from roku to follow up chat. i responded to email but never received a response.once i deduced that changing the batteries might be worth a try, remote now working very much better, but still hangs up occasionally. unfortunately, by the time i figure out the weak batteries shipped, the amazon return window had closed.unfortunately i am stuck with a remote that likes to lock up now and then with no recourse due to the amazon return window closure, and lack of competent roku support.i would not recommend this product.
i have bought 2 of these sticks. the sticks work fine, but both usb plugs that came with them were defective. this is only important if your tv does not have a usb port that remains powered up when the tv is turned off. otherwise, the roku stick reboots every time you turn the tv off and on. one of my 2 tv's has the unpowered usb so i had to find another usb plug to replace the defective one. it does not say much for roku's quality control.
had issues out-the-box with the power indicator on the tv flashing on and off. tried several tvs and they all did the same thing only with this roku. today it simply refused to play at all, showing a black screen and no control over it whatsoever. chunk of cheap garbage
we only bought this in february and it already no longer works. we have tried changing the batteries with multiple different battery brands- brand new from the package. i would love to have this replaced but am unusre how to
recent power outages required moving from one tv to another due to cords from inverter generator. very difficult to pair, many tries (8-10) then it mysteriously worked. they have a phone app, but you only get 3 trial days then you have to pay. it works so you can operate your roku stick, but having to pay another $26 for lifetime is unreasonable, also the phone app has lots of ads, and has to be connected each time you use it. the phone app is not as convenient as the remote. the remote drops the pairing whenever the power goes off, such as when the generator runs out of fuel. re-pairing is inconsistent, you can easily spend an hour. i canned the roku and bought a fire stick. problem solved! the fire stick pairs automatically.i'm done with roku.
no problems for about the first month but after that a constant source of irritation. used to connect with wifi immediately but now it may take up to a minute or two to connect. sometimes it connects and there is no sound so you have to power off power back on wait a minute or two for it to connect and will then have sound or sometimes not and you must do it again. the remote gobbles up batteries they only last a month or so but the most frustrating part is it will tell you batteries are dead but they are really not. if you remove the cover over the batteries, pop them out of the remote, reinsert them it will work fine. you will have to perform this procedure once or twice daily but you can get another month or two out of the batteries. i have other remotes used daily that will have a battery life of 3-5 years. also depending on what tv brands you have the stick can have little quirks like giving you error messages etc. have wanted to smash controller in to wall so many times i can't count but like i say what do you expect for $50.
i have had this for a little while and no matter how many fresh batteries we put in the remote it doesn’t quite connect all the time i actually purchased two i have one for one tv and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. the second one is a complete disaster. the remote just doesn’t wanna work. no i had times we reboot it fresh batteries doesn’t matter, and you cannot just buy a remote replacement
